I don't normally write reviews, but I feel compelled to with these.
It took a lot (!) of convincing to purchase these ($$) but they are seriously worth it. After tossing up for a month and bit before hitting 'confirm order' I only had 16km of classic Riverhead forrest to acquaint myself with them before race day, the Taupō 100km.
The pros
- The BOA lacing, the ability to really lock in the heal without the pressure on the forefoot/toes is magical. It stoped the slide I would normally get in lace up’s resulting in less fatigued feet.
- As your feet swell over a race, its super quick to adjust the ‘laces’ making at least your feet comfortable when you’re suffering.
- They stick, the vibram sole is great (I wish they had it on the LPs).
- Really enjoyed the cushion amount (not to much, not to little).
- My feet didn't hurt. In fact it wasn’t until 15mins after crossing the finish line that I thought about my taking my shoes off. Normally something I dream about in the later stages of a race.
- They drain water ‘relatively’ quickly.
The cons
- Seriously, who makes trail shoe with white on it. Mine is now a dirt&maroon colourway.
- Once you settle in to your run (5ish km), the top BOA needs tightening to avoid the heel slip (it does only take a second).
- The price, these will be exclusively reserved as a race shoe as much as I want to wear them for everything.
Other comments
- I do wonder how they will hold up over time and on more technical terrain. The upper seems better reinforced than the Timp (1.5/2). Maybe there is hope.
- Sizing was the same as LP/Timp/Torin/Provision models
- If you don’t normally run in 0mm drop, make sure you do the transition to avoid calf injury
