Must do adventure in NZ:New Zealand is overflowing with adventure potential, but a recent favourite was a red hut tour of the South Island. This adventure was spontaneously created on a New Year’s road trip. My friend Anna and I went up to the iconic Mueller Hut at Mt Cook and said, “this is amazing! Let’s visit as many red huts as we can in the next week.” Because why not? A full blown #redhutholiday and epic womance ensued, as we missioned out to Liverpool and Browning huts in Mt Aspiring National Park to ring in the New Year in the mountains. We finished with a soak in natural hot pools at Welcome Flat Hut up the West Coast’s Copeland Track (technically not a red hut, but well worth the detour). The magic of the New Zealand hut system has gotten under my skin, and I can’t wait to get back out there.
My favourite piece of kit: Is the Montane Minimus lightweight rain jacket. Coming from the rain capitol of the USA (Seattle), and currently residing in Wellington, I have a deep appreciation for any gear that can keep me warm and dry. Because it’s lightweight and breathable, it’s ideal as a go-to running jacket.
