Team Freewheelers AKA Anna, Sara and Dee!

Anna, Sara and Dee and Summer Challenge.

Meet Anna, Sara and Dee AKA Team Freewheelers!

Three wāhine, one shared love for the outdoors.

Whether it’s ski touring, white water kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking or hiking, most weekends you’ll find us somewhere outside - connected to nature and to each other.

The Summer Challenge, and our next team event, the Spring Challenge, gives us that extra sense of wellbeing, purpose and adventure that truly fills our cups.

We’re all in different stages of parenthood, which makes this journey even more meaningful.

Anna, our keen navigator, navigates both maps and life with a five-month-old. Sara, the pocket rocket and pack horse, keeps the pace high while wrangling a busy two-year-old. Dee, our backup navigator and expert snack organiser, brings the wisdom (and snacks) with school-aged kids.

Our mission for the Spring Challenge is simple: stay active and challenged through winter while encouraging and supporting each other. Just as importantly, we’re aiming to create a balance at home too - giving our partners space to fill their cups as well.

Training will mostly happen at the edges of the day - 6am starts before the house wakes, or after 7:30pm once the kids are asleep. We’re planning a monthly adventure in the hills and sharpening our skills at Wicked Rogaines for navigation training.

It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.

This is about movement, connection, and showing what’s possible when wāhine support wāhine.

Anna Scheirlinck - @anna_b_outside

I'm a lover of the vertical. Climbing up peaks on a mountain bike, on foot or on skis, and earning my turns down is my happy place. I'm a Ski Guide, working in the local Canterbury crags and hills, throughout NZ and overseas. I'm passionate about supporting wāhine and young people into the outdoors & climbing. I lead Alpine Rescue Canterbury and train regularly in technical skills with our team. I love a good adventure race or multisport team event as a way of challenging my fitness and working together as a team to push ourselves on the day.

Sara Vermeulen - @pocket_rocket_sara

I’m a white water kayaker, adventure racer, and compulsive circle runner who thrives on long days, big missions, and type-two fun. Alongside the adventures, I work in nursing education and raise a family. Balancing work, sport, and parenting with grit, humour, and a love of the outdoors.
