Salewa Logo

Designed to make light work of tough alpine terrain in variable conditions, the Raven 3 GORE-TEX® mountaineering boot has an abrasion-resistant fabric upper to offer exceptional stability, durability and performance, all in a lightweight construction.

Inside, the durably waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX® Performance Comfort lining delivers optimised climate comfort even in changing weather conditions.

Outside, the protective rubber rand and external TPU toe cap increase comfort and protection in the long run, outperforming conventional constructions.

The Vibram® WrapThread Combi (WTC) sole offers optimal grip, traction and surefootedness over rough, steep terrain without compromising on comfort, while the smooth climbing zone at the toe promotes precise footwork.

At the heart of the boot, the stiff nylon carbon loaded fibreglass insole ensures good crampon compatibility, while the Bilight Midsole is designed with material properties and an ergonomic shape to provide superior shock absorption for the lifetime of the shoe.

Flexibility, heel support and a precise blister-free fit come courtesy of the SALEWA 3F System, 3D Lacing allows you to fine-tune at the toes and midfoot, and the Multi Fit Footbed + (MFF+) with interchangeable layers gives you greater customisation for your feet.

The blurb sounded good for these boots for my summer climbing but in reality I have been very disappointed in how these boots have performed.

I found the sole very slippery on rock and if the rock is wet it feels like you're ice skating. Not good for climbing confidence.

The front point of the sole has a ridge that sticks out and I found it catching on rocks causing me to fall over numerous times. I'm usually pretty nimble on the rocks but with these boots I felt very clumsy.

Smother disappointment was that After only a couple of trips the outer part of the boot is already coming apart.

If what you do is easy alpine trekking these will be ok but if you're doing even some semi serious climbing on rock these boots just aren't up to the task imo and are a liability.

    Comfortable and secure fitment

My first pair of Salewa's although my wife is a Salewa convert. Great comfortable boot, stable, stiff and yet flexible when needed. Looking forward to placing the crampons on and seeing how they are on the slopes.

Found the boots immediately comfortable. No blisters after first breaking-in use on mount Oxford last week. I particularly like the wider heel compared to other boots I’ve tried of the same lightweight winter boot type. Definitely gave me more confidence on the way down in slippy and loose conditions as I’ve never been keen on poles. Feet stayed dry when boot submerged over laces. Though rated for moderate crampon use, the sole was not overly still and “clompy” (a concern when I bought them) so expect to be able to use them in a wider range of terrain and seasons and not just as a winter boot. Other reviews mention the soles wearing surprisingly quickly but not expecting to really thrash my boots like an outdoor magazine reviewer would. Time will tell.
